Will education become less important?

As time goes on, do you think education, in particular say, a college degree, will be of less importance than it is now?

When I think about it, it seems like degrees are a dime a dozen these days. Employers seem to value experience and other things now.

Will this trend continue, or will a degree just be the very first thing employers look for? As it stands, it seems like it's the bare minimum to get any decent position with benefits.

I think that people who know how to use their hands and are able to fix things, will be like gold dust soon. Everybody is walking around with a degree, but they are usually not capable of fixing even the most simple things around the house.

If you are able to do just that. Simple jobs, like unblock a kitchtensink or fixing a light that's not working than you could potentially make a lot of money I think. Because as time goes on there are less and less people who actually know how to fix things.

So from that point of view I believe education is maybe a bit less important than training young people to use their hands.

Technical skills do seem to be becoming more important. But that's education too. You need a certification for being a plumber or electrician or whatever. I often feel like there is more money in those types of jobs these days too. Compared to boring office or business jobs.

I have seen kids here with the fanciest degrees who can't change a light bulb... I worry about the future. Nobody is taught anything with their hands anymore. These kids now think it's normal that everything is done automatically/electronically. What if something fails? Then they are up the creek for sure...

This will be a massive problem in the near future. People that are able to do simple jobs like changing light bulbs, unblocking the drain or any other simple job can make a killing if they were to start this as a business. "Rent a handyman"
