Why do you think people are so sensitive these days?

I noticed a lot of people these days are very easily offended. I don't understand why. I grew up around boys having two brothers. I am used to the teasing and roosting. I gave it back just as well. Maybe the way I grew up made the difference? Not sure. What do you all think?

Sensitive in the sense of being too emotional?

I would imagine it is down to a lack of major conflict. Think of the generations before us. They had wars and struggles with market crashing, food shortages, etc. Because things have become so easy for people, some have become bored I suppose and look to stir the pot and create issues where there aren't any.

Lack of conflict and "real" problems - makes sense. We have only had "first world" problems for a long time now.

Another thing is the internet. We all have gotten used to our opinions being "important". It has created a sense of ego because we are used to getting likes and such, on social media.

Really, we are all just ants. But who wants to admit that? It soothes the ego and makes us feel better, to think we are right, or validated, on the internet. It allows people to seek attention, or be passive-aggressive, and get others asking after them.

It's like we are more lonely than ever before, but the internet masks our isolation.

My two cents.

NRG18- I love how you say we have all gotten used to our opinions being important.

While everyone is entitled to their opinions, I am tired of people trying to change things that have been in place for years.

No one is better than anyone else. I just think that we have too many snowflakes in the world right now.

Opinions aren't facts and I think that is a HUGE issue right now. People are acting like their opinions and feelings are factual data. The rise of social media that overtook social networking (like this forum) created a huge shift of turning away from a community and making it all about self-centeredness. It is all ME ME ME instead of we. Twitter, Facebook, etc. are so toxic now I can't even bring myself to talk about them.

Everyone has the right to have an opinion on anything but having an opinion doesn't make you right or even wrong for that matter. It seems like this is the issue with a lot of discussions today. People are too concerned with being right than actually solving any problems.
