What's the longest you ever held a job for?

Just curious - what is your longest position? Some people I know tend to get fired very easily, and don't value the jobs they hold very much. These tend to be entry- or low-paid positions, for the most part.

I notice that those with a college degree are usually more careful, and work harder to move further up the ladder in their particular field. They seem to also really go out of their way to avoid being let go, and losing the benefits that they've built up.

I am not really a job person, because I love my freedom too much. Nevertheless I've had various jobs in my life and the longest I managed a job was about five years. Twice a period of five years with two different employers in different countries.

Thereafter I went self employed and once you have done that it is very hard to ever go back to a job.

I've only been in the workforce for about 4 years so I havent had all that many jobs. The longest I've held a job is at a restaurant where practically my whole family works and I grew up in. I've been there 2.5 years and counting. It's almost like part of my identity with the kind of dedication and loyalty I show that company. I love all my regular customers though. I love the company and I love my managers. God knows when/if I'll ever leave them.

It sounds like you're sort of happy in that place and that's worth a lot I think.

4 years at my local credit union. It was a pretty decent job and had good benefits. Just very vanilla and boring in the end.

You know... I am happy there. It was never what I thought I'd be doing now but I do love that restaurant. I take a lot of pride in it and I dont let anyone put my restaurant down. I may not get along with my coworkers and sometimes I really have to make myself go in; but once I'm there I'm like yeah! This is what I do and I do it well. Unfortunately there just isnt much room to grow there. I'll have to leave eventually.

Let me see... I think 3 years. Or just under. I actually worked at Starbucks. It was a good side job. I often found that I could pay all my bills just working 25 hours a week. Of course, that was some time ago now.
