Why do young people in the US want socialism?

Is it for the free stuff? It has to be because I can't see any other reason anyone in their right mind would want this!

I am among few my age who seems to be very much against this. I am all for a capitalist country. We have the freedom to own and run our own businesses which is something I don't think people realize is not a big thing in other countries. If you are going to open and run your own business, the US is the best place to do it. We can get on the topic of healthcare as well with this. If we had a socialist system for health care, it would be free but we'd have to wait months to see a doctor, possibly a year or longer to get treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses, people under and over certain ages will be denied care even if they are going to die... It just sounds very inhumane if you ask me. It is expensive the way it is right now but it can be fixed and plus, as the law stands, no matter if you have insurance or not a hospital cannot turn you away due to a medical emergency. They have to treat you.You would not get that in a socialist system.

What are your thoughts on this?

I really could not tell you. I have a friend who loved the idea of it and I am like "Bro, you really don't like your freedom do you?"

I mean on paper it sounds great, no one is poor and everyone has their needs met but the problem is when this is the case, most people just become poor.

Socialism means that more and more people will become dependent on the government. The more people are dependent on the government the bigger it gets and the more power it will have.

The more government and the more people depending on the government, the higher the income taxes.

If you want a free country with free people the last thing you want is socialism,

Seriously! This is spot on. I don't think people really understand how it works. In a sense, we are getting a taste of it right now with the lockdown. People are being told where they can and can't go, people are being restricted as to when, where, and how long they can be inside buildings, it is just a mess.

And still, it looks like the whole world wil turn into a socialist state soon. It will not be limited to one country, because they say we have a global problem that calls for a global solution.

Former US president Ronald Reagan once said the following in a speech to the United Nations: Perhaps we need some outside univeral threat to make all the differences disappear.

And here we have the outside universal threat. Would now not be the right time to call for one big global socialist superstate?

I can see that one coming one of these years.

Have you ever watched Futurama? In that show, they have the one-world government. A lot of people are expecting the world to shift that way but as it stands right now, we are nowhere near that. Just looking at places like Iran and the middle east, they won't agree to anything.

What will have to happen is the US will need to start taking land. Same with other countries. We will need to end up with 3 super countries before a one-world system can even be talked about on the table.

Let's face it, we are getting to the point where we can't afford the basics anymore.

Who here has money for an education or a surprise hospital visit? Every little thing has the potential to trip us up and get us into debt. America is like a country full of minefields, where you have to be extremely careful where you step.

We are now getting into a situation where more and more people will turn to the government for help. The government will help, but that help comes with a price tag. In return for bailing out people they want more control and more power. Both are elements you'll find in a socialist state.

This week we had Henry Kissinger saying that the only way out for the world is a new world order.

Writing in The Wall Street Journal Friday, Kissinger declared that it is now an imperative that the world's leaders, even as they deal with the raging pandemic, begin to make the "transition to the post-coronavirus order."

"Failure to do so could set the world on fire."

This kind of scares me. I mean knowing how people can be with money when they are rich or how people can just be evil and corrupt in our day to day lives, I can't imagine a super-government.

I hate socialism. I learned about it from my friend's father who migrated to the US from a socialist country and he always feared the US dipping its tow into socialism.

I have travelled a lot and have been in countries in the time the so called Iron Curtain still existed. The countries behind that curtain were the communist countries, ruled by Russia.

I once spent time with some Romanian students near Brasov, close to the famous Dracula castle.

The people living there were really really scared. They did not want to talk about anything that really mattered and the reason was that they could not trust anyone. One of those students told me: We have the situation that one half of the population watches the other half and you never know who is going to betray you to the government.

Ofcourse, communism is a sort of extrem socialism, but the basic idea is the same. You have the government as the sort of Big Brother deciding everything for the people and you can be absolutely sure that you are no longer free in a socialist state.
